How to make: Cold & Flu Home Remedy

Here is a common classic herbal remedy for colds and flu, lemon ginger and honey, but with a twist.

Our version is vegan and comes with some extra immune boosters that you don’t get in your regular home remedy. We have added some rosemary, maple syrup instead of honey and yes you are reading it right…. garlic.

Garlic is my go-to when I feel like I have an illness coming on. It has powerful immune support properties as well as other health benefits, natural antibacterial properties and also anti-inflammatory.

Rosemary is also another great immune-boosting herb with antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Growing in most gardens in the UK, if not it’s definitely one that you should buy dried and kept in your cupboard.

Honey is not vegan and so a great alternative is Maple syrup. Lower GI index, fewer calories and contains nutrients such as manganese and vitamin b2.

Lemon gives your Vitamin C a boost and Ginger contains gingerol which is also anti-inflammatory.

How to make our Cold & Flu Remedy

Method:

If you’re feeling a little under the weather, try this cold and flu home remedy that’s loaded with herbs and spices to help soothe your sore throat, clear your sinuses, and get rid of that nasty cough.

What You’ll Need:

-2 cups water

-1 lemon – 1/4 for the pot and extra for lemon juice

-1/2 inch ginger root (peeled) cut and crushed

-1 cloves garlic (peeled) Crushed or chopped

– 1/2 – 1 tsp Rosemary (fresh or dried)

– maple syrup – your preferred sweetness I used 1/4tsp

Directions:

Place the water in a pan on the stove. Add the garlic, ginger, and rosemary and lemon. Bring the water to a rolling boil for 5 mins. Strain the liquid into your cup. Add some fresh lemon juice and sweetened it to taste. Drink this as often as desired throughout the day to fight off colds and flu.

Feel free to adapt this to your particular tastes, add more ginger, or lemon. Crush garlic instead of chopping if you don’t want it to be too strong.
