HOW TO MAKE A HEALTHY CHAI LATTE

Chai season has come upon us and there isn’t anything better than one to warm your cockles on a blustery day.

What is Masala Chai?

Essentially it is an Indian tea that is made with spices. These spices usually contain ginger and cinnamon which is no wonder it brings about the holiday spirit.

Traditionally made in a pot where the selection of spices are boiled for a few minutes before the tea is added. Once the tea is added evaporated milk and sugar is usually used to make it creamy and sweet. But we have a quicker, healthier and easy version for you to make yourself at home.

Mindful Masala Chai

THE FLAVOUR

Mindful Masala Chai is our signature blend that is perfectly balanced with spices and the smoothness of Assam tea. The ginger will gently warm you whilst you savour the flavours of cardamom and cloves whilst the nutmeg and cinnamon add a natural sweetness.

HOW TO MAKE AS A TEA

Each ingredient in looseleaf teas and blends take their own time to release their flavours once they are placed in boiling water. For this reason, it is always best to follow the instructions on the packaging for the temperature it should be and the length of time to be steeped.

Method

  • Use fresh water in your kettle or pot boil and boil to 100℃.
  • Place 1 tsp of Mindful Masala Chai per person in your infuser and place in a cup or teapot.
  • Pour your hot water over the blend in the cup or teapot. For best results leave to steep for about 10 mins.
  • Remove the leaves and enjoy

Method

  • Place 1 tsp of Mindful Masala Chai per person in your infuser and place in a cup or teapot.
  • Pour 1/4 cup of hot water over your leaves in the infuser, we want to make it a bit stronger than a normal cup of tea as it will be mixed with milk. For best results leave it to steep for about 10 mins.
  • Whilst that is steeping heat your milk and froth. ( I made a homemade oat milk from a recipe from the Minimalist Baker that worked really well, but you could also use shop bought milk)
  • After 10 mins remove the leaves and pour over your heated milk.

Happy Sipping!
